 National Cycle Route 1

 The Water Rail Way

The Water Rail Way is a mainly traffic free route between Lincoln and Boston. It follows the path of the old railway track beside the River Witham. The route is for walkers and cyclists and follows National Cycle Track 1 for a lot of it's journey. From Boston to Woodhall Spa some of the route is along quiet roads but from Woodhall Spa through to Bardney and then onto Lincoln the route follows the old railway along a tarmaced surface. As the route approaches Bardney there is a short stretch either along roads or accross farm land dependant on the weather. The Water Rail Way got it's name as a result of a local competition and the rare bird the "Water Rail" has been seen along the route. There are many information story boards and sculptures by local artists, for more information pick up leaflets at local centres or go to the www.visitlincolnshire.com website.
